Proxy Rite Rainbow

In Proxy Rite Rainbow, Jai Leeworthy appropriates the Mormon practice of conducting ceremonies for the dead, as a way of collectively acknowledging queer ancestors. Participants are asked to become 'proxies' that stand in for the departed who were known to stand outside the cisgender/heterosexual records, as we enact a rite that recognises their marginalised and special place in history.

Presented at Next Wave Festival 2018 at sunset on the 12th of May at Brunswick Mechanics Institute
